Desert living presents some of its own challenges…mostly in the form of extreme heat and an overabundance of dust/sand everywhere you go. BUT (!), there are also some major perks, too—like amazing sunsets, warm winters, and the opportunity to create some seriously fun Southwestern spaces.
Make that modern Southwest spaces.
When I first laid eyes upon this revamped Farmhouse great room, I knew three things straight away: 1.) It had a ton of potential 2.) The TV wall unit and fireplace needed an immediate overhaul, and 3.) This baby needed to return to its Southwestern roots, stat!
Here is where we started;
Look at all that potential just waiting to be untapped…and that gorgeous Saltillo tile!
After my initial consult with the “J” family, I immediately called Kyle Hardin with FSM Construction to remove the wall unit/reconfigure the fireplace, repair the walls, and spruce this baby up and back to her roots. He got right to work…

After removing the compartmentalized wall unit, along with the Saltillo tile on the fireplace, this project was underway and this room was about to get a major facelift.

The difference was night and day! This freshly revamped space is much more open, bright, and inviting—and we haven’t even decorate yet! Kyle used Venetian Plaster in a flat finish in Sherwin Williams Moderate White.
Now it was A Fresh Coat’s turn to take this light colored grey back to a creamy white, and bring in all of the finishes.
A beautiful new ceiling fan with modern flair, a Mod Southwest area rug, and some fun pillows all arrived on scene. But this sweet space was far from being finished (obviously). Slowly but surely (and after months of waiting for pieces to arrive), this room was finally complete.

Beautiful fixtures from Shades of Light, gorgeous decor from Dandy Home & Ranch, along with tons of pillows from HomeGoods and Marshalls…not to mention that really fun beige cowhide rug. This space is its own little desert oasis for sure.
