I love decorating. For me there's something crazy exciting in creating (or finding) just the right piece for my home. I actually spend hours (upon hours) searching, surfing, and shopping in order to find the perfect item at the just the right price. But not everyone's like this nor do they enjoy such a process. For many, the very thought of decorating their home can be downright overwhelming...anxiety-inducing even. Pairing textiles and textures, woods and metals, as well as paint and pillows in order to form a cohesive look throughout is the last thing they want to do...and I get this.
But decorating doesn't have to be stressful...or crazy expensive. In fact, it SHOULD be fun--an opportunity to really customize your space and make it feel like home.
IMO, gallery walls are the #1 way to achieve a custom look and feel. Plus, they're a great way to add some personality and kick your wall decor up a notch or two. I have to admit, I'm kind of obsessed with the very idea of a gallery wall because it's no longer just about hanging pictures up all in a row. The opposite in fact. Rules are tossed aside. Rather, it's about balancing the design and creating/achieving a custom and visually pleasing statement for your walls.
So, what's the first step? Think outside the box! Gallery walls don't have to just be about pictures. Think about including the following:
1. Family Monogram
2. Numbers (like the number of members in your family)
3. Birthdates/times/year family established
4. Clocks, Mirrors & Crosses
5. Scripture & Quotes
6. State of Residence & Home Addresses
7. Children's Artwork
8. Pets
9. License Plates
10. Arrows & Elements

Also? Sometimes you're not going to find the perfect item. It may be the right size but possibly the wrong color. In such a case, never underestimate the power of spray paint. Anything can be altered in order to achieve the look you desire.
